Nomination Form
We are seeking CCDS Board of Director member nominations for a term of three years, beginning in July 2011 through June 2014. Below are the responsibilities of a board member. If you are interested, or you would like to nominate someone you know, please fill out the attached document and submit a resume by May 15, 2011. The board is especially seeking people to serve who would be "community members" of our board, including people without current students enrolled, business members of our community, or anyone else who might be interested in being part of our charter school. Responsibilities of a Board Member
TERM: Three years if elected by the Board, (or if in the case of filling a vacancy, the remainder of the term being filled). Two time renewal.
STRUCTURE: The board should have a membership that includes diversity in the areas of age, ethnicity, gender, experience, and knowledge.
FUNCTIONS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Program:
- Participate in the development of goals and objectives
- Establish policies
- Participate in the strategic planning process
- Participate in fundraising activities
Finance:
- Approve annual budget and monitor financial management
- Approve special funding projects
- Approve new projects and programs
- Establish financial policy
Administration:
- Participate in evaluation of the school and of the Executive Director and Principal
Organizational:
- Elect officers and nominate candidates to fill vacancies on the Board
- Amend bylaws of organization, as necessary.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BOARD MEMBER
- Attend all regular and special meetings of the Board
- Attend committee meetings as necessary
- Attend Board retreat
- Attend events such as the Annual Auction
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES OF A BOARD MEMBER
- Provide leadership and discussion in board deliberations
- Be conversant about CCDS
- Be in a position to support policy and programs in informal settings
- Effectively communicate the school's success and programs
- Be politically aware in regard to charter school issues
- Actively engage in school fundraising
LIMITATIONS
- Directors should not interpret school policy in self interest or use their position for personal gain.
- No director can legally obligate the school.
- Directors should not usurp authority of school administration

Karin Daverson is a first and second grade teacher. She received her BA from Chico State and her multiple subjects credential from there as well. She has been teaching for 19 years, the last 9 of them here at CCDS. She and her wife Tricia are the proud parents to nine children, seven of whom attend CCDS. She doesn't have any spare time, but if she did, she'd read anything she could get her hands on and scrapbook about her full and wonderful life.

Board Member, CCDS Teacher
John Garrett is the 7th and 8th grade history teacher here at CCDS. John graduated from Chico State with a BA in History and went on to get his single subject teaching credential there as well. He has been teaching history for 13 years, the last three at CCDS. He is also the director of the North State History-Social Science Project housed at Chico State. In that capacity he helps train other history teachers throughout the state in methodology and instruction. In his spare time John is an official for Sierra Nevada Swimming. He and his wife Rochelle have two sons who attend CCDS.

Katherine MacKinnon teaches developmental reading and writing at Butte College. She holds a doctorate in Applied Linguistics from Northern Arizona University, and a masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from Georgia State University. She is passionate about improving access and opportunity at all levels of education for students from traditionally at-risk demographics, and believes that charter schools can offer these students and their families exceptional prospects.

Board Member
Kate McCarthy is Professor of Religious Studies at CSU, Chico, and the mother of two CCDS students. She and her husband Rich Ober came to Chico from Berkeley in 1994 and she can now claim deeper roots here than any of the many other places she's lived. Her research focuses on relations between religious groups, and she is active in the local interfaith community. She and her family enjoy living between downtown and Bidwell Park and encouraging their large dog to observe leash laws.

Board Member & Treasurer
Matt was born and raised in Chico and attended CUSD schools through high school. He received both an undergraduate business degree and an MBA from CSU Chico and received his PhD in Marketing from Arizona State University. He is currently a professor of marketing at CSU Chico and has lived in Phoenix and Philadelphia before returning home to Chico in 2000. He has worked as a marketing consultant and continues to work with both large and small organizations on marketing issues such as management of the delivery of services, integration of technology into marketing operations, and the development of brands. Matt is an avid sports and outdoor enthusiast who enjoys running, hiking, biking, and all sports. He has completed several triathlons and has run a marathon with his wife in San Diego. Matt and the love of his life, Pamela, were high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. They are the proud parents of Madison (Mrs. Bower's 4th grade class) and Carson (Mrs. Proctor's 2nd grade class).

Kevin is a native of Quincy, Ca and proudly traces ancestry lines in Chico dating back to the 1800's, including both a Grandmother and Great-Aunt who were teachers in the Chico school system. After graduating from CaliforniaStateUniversity, Sacramento he began his career as a financial advisor, relocated to Chico in 1998 and opened Murray Financial Services in 2006. He is the proud father of 3 children, all of whom attend ChicoCountry Day School. In addition to volunteering his time at CCDS, he is an active member of the Chico Rotary Club, Board member of the Boys and Girls Club and a past board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, fly fishing, camping, hunting, and skiing and wishing his body still allowed him to play rugby.

Chief Business Officer
Margaret is currently the Chief Business Officer of CCDS. She graduated with a Certificate in School Business Management from University of Southern California, received a Masters in Public Administration from CSU, Chico, and has a BA from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She and her husband, Greg Gazda, have two boys, one in middle school at CCDS and one who is a recent CCDS graduate attending Chico High School. An age group, high school, and collegiate swimmer, Margaret swims competitively with Chico Masters Swimming and is a member of Chico Rotary Club.

CCDS Principal/Superintendent
Paul is the Principal of Chico Country Day School. Previously, he was principal at Mountain Ridge Middle School in the Paradise Unified School District and at St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School in Oroville. He has his Masters Degree from CSU, Chico in Educational Administration. Paul has lived in the Chico area for nearly 30 years and is married with two children.
