Short-Term Independent Study for Absences
CCDS encourages families to plan vacations and travel time around scheduled school holidays and days off. In the event that you have plans that conflict with our school calendar, families may participate in our short-term independent study program.
Short term independent study is an option for families when your student will be out of school for a minimum of 1 day. We kindly ask for five days’ notice whenever possible. However, we understand that unexpected situations can happen, and we want to support your child’s learning. If this occurs, please get in touch with Stacey Owen as soon as possible so we can work together to find the best solution.
To request independent study for your student, please submit this form as soon as possible. Contract and exit meetings are optional. However, if the independent study work submitted to Stacey Owen is determined to be incomplete, a mandatory meeting will be scheduled to review and collect all outstanding materials.

Why is short term independent study a smart choice?
- CCDS is able to receive ADA funding when students turn in their completed independent study assignments. ADA (average daily attendance) is a key factor in how schools receive state funding. Did you know that student absenteeism equates to $10.7 billion of lost funding each year?!
- Students on Independent Study don't fall behind in their school work. This saves your child - and you - a lot of potential stress!
